The 2014 Mazda CX-9 vs. the 2014 Honda Pilot
The 2014 Mazda CX-9 may be Mazda’s largest crossover SUV, but don’t get fooled by its dimensions. Though larger, it still looks and plays the part of a streamlined, agile vehicle. And like the rest of Mazda’s lineup, it is a near-perfect synthesis of performance, fuel efficiency, and comfort.
It’s this balance that has made the CX-9 one of the most popular crossover SUV’s around Bradenton and Tampa. The CX-9 is also great alternative to the 2014 Honda Pilot thanks to its lower starting price, its full list of comparable features, and its higher power rating. Here’s a look at how the 2014 CX-9 Sport (MSRP $29,985) and 2014 Pilot EX (MSRP $31,920) trims compare.
All 2014 CX-9 models come standard equipped with a tough 273 hp 3.7L V6 engine with 270 lb-ft of torque. The Pilot has less power, offering up a 250 hp 3.5L V6 with 253 lb-ft of torque. This power difference doesn’t really translate into much of a difference in fuel economy either. Some drivers may find that the CX-9’s higher torque rating gives them better acceleration, especially when hauling heavier loads.
The CX-9 offers most of the same options as the Pilot for a lower price, as well as a few extras, including:
- A rear spoiler
- Heated exterior mirrors
- Front heated seats
