2016 Mazda CX-3 vs. 2016 Honda HR-V

In recent years, automakers have been looking for innovative ways to attract buyers to the crossover SUV segment, so it was no surprise when both Mazda and Honda announced that they were bringing two all-new crossover models to the market this year. While both certainly have their appeal, a closer look makes it clear that the 2016 Mazda CX-3 is not only the more practical option, but also more fun as well. Take a closer look before coming to check out the Mazda CX-3 at Cox Mazda, your Tampa-area Mazda dealer, at 3101 Cortez Rd. W. in Bradenton, FL.

Power

It all starts under the hood, and as it turns out the 2016 Mazda CX-3 has more to offer in this department. Every version of the Mazda CX-3 is fitted with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine matched to a six-speed automatic transmission to generate a balanced 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 2016 Honda HR-V’s smaller 1.8L four-cylinder engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual and only gets 141 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque.

Fuel Economy

Even though it has more output from the engine, the 2016 Mazda CX-3 still has better fuel economy than the Honda HR-V. The front-wheel drive version of the Mazda CX-3 is able to achieve EPA estimates of 35 mpg highway and 29 mpg city. Even the all-wheel drive version gets an EPA-estimated 32 mpg highway and 27 mpg city. On the other hand, if you fit the HR-V with the more expensive continuously variable transmission, it is only able to achieve EPA estimates of 35 mpg highway and 28 mpg city with front-wheel drive, while matching the Mazda CX-3 with all-wheel drive.

Features

Step inside either of these models, and you’re sure to notice that both have thoroughly modern cabins, even at the base trim level. Each includes standard fare like Bluetooth connectivity with voice activated controls, as well as keyless entry, power windows and door locks, and a rearview camera. However, there are quite a few optional base features on the Mazda CX-3 that you can’t get on the base HR-V, incuding:

  • Navigational aid
  • Universal garage door opener
  • Remote start
  • Interior auto day/night or electrochromatic mirror
