Mazda3 vs. Ford Fiesta
The 2013 Mazda3 vs. the 2013 Ford Fiesta
The 2013 Mazda3 continues the fine Mazda tradition of solid, dependable, and affordable four door cars. It’s a powerful car that features many great performance abilities that helps put it near the top of its class. However, the 2013 Ford Fiesta is a competitor with many of the same options but costs $17,200 to the Mazda3’s $16,700. But is the extra money worth it?
The performance specifications of these two vehicles are very similar. There are a few instances where the Fiesta outperforms the Mazda3 but Mazda has it where it counts: power. Sporting a 2L, 4-cylinder SEFI engine, the Mazda3 pumps out a solid 148 hp and 135 lb-ft of torque. The smaller 1.6L engine of the Fiesta only offers 120 hp and 112 lb-ft of torque. The Mazda3 also has independent suspension versus the semi-independent in the Ford.
Size may not always matter, but it certainly helps with smaller coupes. The Mazda3 is about five inches longer and wider than the Fiesta, including a five inch wider wheel base. It’s also 300 pounds heavier. Bigger vehicles are capable of handling snowy and rainy weather conditions better, and a wider wheel base means you’re less likely to flip over in an emergency situation. The Mazda3 also has an average three to five more inches available for riders in the backseat.
The Mazda3 and the Ford Fiesta have nearly identical safety features. These safety features include:
- Drivers air bag
- Passengers air bag
- Child safety door locks
- Side guard door beams
- Vehicle anti-theft
- Side curtain air bags
The Ford Fiesta has a few optional items such as a remote control for the safety system but these few extras don’t really add up to paying $2,000 extra. Simply put, the Mazda3 is as safe as the Fiesta and much cheaper.
