Mazda3 Vs Volkswagen Jetta
The 2012 Mazda3 vs. the 2012 VW Jetta
The battle is on and the stage is set at Cox Mazda for a showdown in the world of compact cars. Here at our St. Petersburg area Mazda dealership, we think two of the top contenders are the 2012 Mazda3 and the 2012 VW Jetta, and our money is on the Mazda3! Known for its sports car–style performance and affordable price tag, the new 2012 model can add excellent fuel economy to its list of desirable features. Offering its most fuel-efficient engine yet — complete with SKYACTIV technology — the new Mazda3 sedan can cruise around with an estimated EPA fuel economy of up to 28 mpg city and 40 mpg highway (fuel efficiency will vary depending on the powertrain chosen). Along with the addition of some impressive exterior updates such as a uniquely revised grille and air intakes, reshaped rear valance panel, and new headlights, this scores the newest model some big points against the VW Jetta.
The Mazda3 is a Top Safety Pick
Although the VW Jetta offers basic safety features like stability control and front, side, and overhead airbags, Mazda’s sedan comes out on top in government crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the Mazda3 a Top Safety Pick. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration agrees, giving the 2012 Mazda3 a solid five stars out of five in frontal crash tests, whereas the Jetta was only awarded four stars.
The 2012 Mazda3 is packed full of top-of-the-line innovative safety features to warrant such recognition, including a Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control System, Triple H body construction, a tire pressure monitoring system, and optional Blind Spot Monitoring.
Looking for a Comfy Commute?
As if impressive fuel economy and highly awarded safety features don’t provide enough reasons to choose the Mazda3 over the VW Jetta, the comfort offered in the cabin will win drivers over for certain. Offering the driver 42 inches of front leg room and 38.9 inches of front head room, there is ample space for a six-foot adult to comfortably zip to work, around town, and back home again without feeling cramped. The 2012 Jetta only offers 41.2 inches of front leg room, with front head room at 38.2 inches. This may not read like a significant difference, but when you climb into the driver’s seat, we’re confident you’ll agree that more is better when it comes to interior space. The Mazda3 also offers a smaller turning radius and is constructed to be a bit more narrow than the VW Jetta, allowing you to maneuver tight spots and parking spaces with ease.
