Current Model

The newest rendition of this model is the 2016 Mazda6, and it comes available at an MSRP from an affordable $21,495. The model has received praise for its spacious cabin and ample cargo area, as well as its powerful, fuel-efficient powertrain and sporty driving dynamics. All versions receive a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that makes 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque while coming in at up to a remarkable EPA-estimated 40 mpg highway and 28 mpg city when hooked up to the available i-Eloop® system.
The new Mazda6 also gets a number of different changes over the outgoing model. These include upgraded cabin materials, a larger seven-inch touchscreen, and updated styling to the front and back ends for an even more imposing presence on the road.
Reviews
We’re clearly fans of the 2016 Mazda6, but we’re happy to say we’re not alone. In fact, some of the biggest auto critics in the business have roundly praised this sedan:
- AutoTrader: “Although priced on par with other popular family sedans, Mazda has infused its 5-passenger sedan with a sleek and sophisticated body, outstanding driving dynamics and an interior that is technologically savvy without being overly complicated.”
- Kelley Blue Book: “If you’re looking for a midsize sedan that’s fun to drive, fuel-efficient and stylish, it’s hard to beat the Mazda6.”
- Edmunds: “With its roomy cabin, agile handling and impressive fuel economy, the 2016 Mazda6 is a fine choice for a midsize sedan, especially if you want one with some personality.”

Future Models

Coupe fans may have a reason to be excited, because there’s word that Mazda designers are currently planning a 2017 Mazda6 two-door coupe in addition to the already popular sedan. While the full details have yet to be unveiled, a coupe format on the Mazda6 would almost surely bring even more exciting driving dynamics to the equation.
As far as design and performance are concerned, we wouldn’t expect any major changes in the immediate future, as the numbers and performance are already so strong. Do look for continuing upgrades on Mazda’s advanced SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY, though. Regardless of what’s in store, we can be sure it will provide plenty of pragmatic results along with a lot of fun in a segment that sometimes forgets that the drive to work doesn’t have to be boring.
