But rejoice: the Mazda company is taking the time to redesign the Mazda2 from top to bottom. The 2016 Mazda2 will be released later this year. With its suite of new cabin technologies and Mazda’s lightweight, fuel-efficient SKYACTIV design technology put into full force, you’ll agree that the 2016 Mazda2 is worth the wait.

The most obvious way in which the brand-new Mazda2 differs from its predecessor is the updated exterior design. The familiar silhouette sports curvier lines and a longer body, making it sleeker and more aerodynamic. The larger grille gives it a more aggressive front face, while the longer wheelbase provides a smoother acceleration and more control.
However, the most dramatic change in the 2016 Mazda2 might be the performance. The standard 1.5L four-cylinder engine will produce around 100 hp and 98 lb-feet of torque. Information about the fuel economy isn’t available yet, but is expected to be about 20% more than the current model.
Engines, there may be more than one option, will come with either a six-speed manual or automatic. This is a distinct improvement over the five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions of the previous Mazda2, making for a faster acceleration time.
There are more changes which will make for a different feel when driving, such as a higher trailing arm mount for better comfort and low/medium-speed stability, with other adjustments for straight-line stability. These work in conjunction with the longer wheelbase to reduce pitching and to flatten out the car while taking corners. Mazda is working further on tweaking the design to improve ride quality at low and mid-range speeds.
The interior has been upgraded as well, with a better grade of materials for a more upscale, comfortable feel. You’ll be able to choose the option of a three-tone leather seat design in cream, grey, and red, or stick with the classic cloth upholstery. The infotainment system will also be a brand new one, controlled by a dial-button array in the center console for accessibility. The dash-mounted color display will support smartphone integration and navigation through the Mazda Connect system.
Safety is now paramount in the Mazda2. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert combine with radar cruise control and lane departure warning to make sure you’ll keep control of your surroundings.
