Changes to the 2017 Mazda3

We’re expecting an announcement of a 2017 Mazda3 release date in the first quarter of 2016, but the changes in store for the new model are largely up in the air. Here’s a bit of what we expect:

• Sportier Design: Spy photos of what fans believe to be the new Mazda3 look like it’s borrowing some design elements from the sportier Mazdaspeed3 hot hatch.

• Turbocharged Engine: The 2017 Mazda CX-9 will features a new SKYACTIV®-T turbocharged engine might be the start of a turbo revolution at Mazda, and that 310 lb.-ft. beast could be an excellent Mazda3 option.

• Technology: We’re confident the tech features will get a refresh, but just how substantial they’ll be remains to be seen. We would like to see Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility at the least.

Because of the popularity of the 2016 model, we predict much of it will carry over.

Carryovers from 2016

While nothing is set in stone, there are some features of the 2016 Mazda3 that we would be shocked to not carry over to the 2017, including:

• Body Styles: Having both a sedan and a hatchback is essential to the Mazda3’s popularity and success, and we expect Mazda to continue giving drivers both options.

• Standard Infotainment System: The MazdaConnect infotainment system comes standard on the 2016 model’s base-level trim, complete with a 7-inch touchscreen and a control knob.

• Fuel Economy: The base Mazda3 is capable of over 40 mpg on the highway, and we expect those numbers to continue (if they don’t rise).

2016 Mazda3 Highlights

Right now we have the 2016 Mazda3 in stock and ready to go, and while we’re just as excited as you are for the future, this car is here right now, waiting for Palmetto and Bradenton drivers at Cox Mazda. • Peppy, Efficient Engine – The standard powertrain is a 2.0L four-cylinder with 155 hp and 150 lb.-ft. of torque, earning an EPA-estimated 41 mpg/highway and 30 mpg/city.

• Safety – Mazda puts safety first and it can be seen in its Five-Star Overall Crash Protection rating from the NHTSA. Advanced accident prevention features like lane departure and forward collision warnings set this Mazda apart.

• Style: Many competing sedans load up the cabin with the same kind of technology the Mazda3 has and then don’t think of how you will use it. The Mazda3 looks good, inside and out, and the tech features look and feel like they were engineered for the car… because they were.
