Mazdaspeed3 Safety Features
Cox Mazda Employee Carl Carpenter Saved by the Safety Features of his Mazdaspeed3
“The car saved me,” said Carl Carpenter of his MazdaSpeed3. He is quite familiar with the safety features of vehicles like the 2014 Mazda3. Each day at Cox Mazda, he helps individuals and families find their next vehicle by going over vehicle features, engines, and safety. Now, when he tells people about Mazda3’s safety ratings, he knows what those mean firsthand after surviving virtually unscathed from an accident in his Mazdaspeed3.
“I’ve been driving ‘Speed3s,’ the fastest car Mazda makes, for about six years now,” Carl says in a video about the accident. The Mazdaspeed3 is a performance-oriented version of the Mazda3 compact car. It features a high-powered engine and specialty performance upgrades. This is a car you’ll want to drive fast, but even the fastest Mazda is still quite safe.
Carl was out cruising in his Mazdaspeed3, when out of nowhere he was T-boned by another car that struck the front-right side of his hatchback. “The guy admitted to the police he was going at least 45 on impact,” said Carl, so this could have been a very serious crash if Carl hadn’t been driving a vehicle with such exceptional safety features.
When Carl’s Mazda got hit, the vehicle activated the front side and full-length side curtain airbags. His Mazdaspeed3 also called for help with its automatic emergency notification system. “Literally within 30 seconds of impact,” said Carl, “the car dialed 911 via the E911 dialing.”
While the right side of the Mazdaspeed3 is going to need some time at the Cox Mazda auto body shop, the interior of the vehicle and Carl were protected by the Mazda3’s solid body structure and airbag system. Carl was a little shaken up and stiff after the accident, but the only visible indication of what he went through was a tiny cut on his elbow. He was able to walk away from the accident alive and on his own two feet thanks to the Mazda3’s safety features.
