New Body and Chassis

2016 Mazda2Mazda has earned accolades by never neglecting style, and the 2016 Mazda2 will continue that commitment to sharp looks. The body will feature curvier lines and a new grille design. Pictures reveal this to be a distinctly upscale and attractive vehicle, features that are rare in the subcompact class. The car will also be taller than the current model, and about six inches longer thanks to a new chassis that is designed to improve the driving experience and boost fuel efficiency ratings.

SKYACTIV Engine

The forthcoming Mazda2 is also expected to have a new engine designed to boost power output. Exact details have not yet been confirmed, but most experts believe the powertrain will be a 1.5L SKYACTIV four-cylinder. That is similar to the outgoing engine, but thanks to careful refinements and the lighter weight of the chassis, it should produce more speed and power than it does now. Both six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are expected. Fuel efficiency ratings have not yet been released, but some have predicted improvements of as much as 20 percent.

Vehicle Features

2016 Mazda2Inside the cabin, the 2015 Mazda2 will feature a completely redesigned infotainment system that is controlled by both a dial-button array and touchscreen controls. This system will control the stereo and display important vehicle information, plus it will integrate with your smartphone and offer built-in navigation. This system is currently available in other Mazda models, and the response from drivers had been overwhelmingly positive. The new Mazda2 may also have a larger cargo capacity thanks to the longer chassis, and there are some indications that a head-up display will be available.
