How to Clean Leather Car Seats

We’ve found that many Tampa drivers think they know how to clean car seats, but cleaning leather seats is a little more complicated. For instance, does your car come with perforated leather? You don’t want any cleaners or liquids to settle in those holes. So don’t spray the seats directly. Spray into your microfiber cleaning cloth instead of spraying directly onto the seating surface.

If your seats aren’t perforated, you can spray directly on them, as long as the cleaner does not discolor them. You’ll want to test a small patch first. We explain how in the steps below.

Follow these instructions on how to clean leather seats

  • Gather all the supplies you’ll need
    • A vacuum cleaner
    • Cleaner that is suitable for leather, such as saddle soap
    • Two microfiber cloths or a brush with soft bristles
    • Leather conditioner
  • Remove any dirt and debris with a vacuum, while being careful not rub any dirt in
  • Apply the cleaner to a small spot on the seat that can’t be readily seen. Do not use the cleaner if it discolors the seat
  • Gently apply the cleaner with your cloth or brush
  • Apply the leather conditioner
