2015 Mazda MX-5 Release Date

The Miata was a game changing sports car when it was first released 25 years ago. Its smaller size, streamlined looks, and sporty, but efficient, engine easily set it apart from the other major players in the sports car market. But what really made the Miata unique was its price point. For the first time, drivers that wanted a vehicle with style and kick could afford one on a relatively modest budget. The Miata was the first sports car that everyone could enjoy.

In order to celebrate this iconic vehicle’s 25 birthday, it is getting a complete redesign in 2015. Mazda has not released many details thus far, but we know that a lot of work has gone into this car. If you, like us, can’t wait to get a look, the anticipation is almost over. The all-new 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata release date is set for next month at 2014 New York Auto Show, and we will finally get to see what the next generation of Miata has to offer. There is no telling when the vehicle will hit the market, whether in late 2014 or early 2015, but at least we will know what to expect. Here is what we know about so far.

New Engine

The 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata will share a similar SKYACTIV engine with the current 2014 Mazda3. It is a naturally-aspirated 1.5L V-4 that should be able to provide lots of pep without burning through gas. Mazda is trying to strike the right balance of performance and efficiency with all their new vehicles, so expect the new Miata to offer both.

New Build

The new Miata will feature a familiar rear-wheel drive layout and share a number of components with the popular Alpha Romero Spider. In total, this car should tip the scales at around a light 2200 pounds. We wish we could tell you more, but pictures of the body design won’t be available until next month.

Learn More in Mid April

The new Miata will make its debut at the NY Auto Show, which is set to begin on April 16th. Once Mazda lets us get a good look at the new model, we expect that they will release technical specs, too. Follow along with Cox Mazda as more information about the 2015 Mazda MX-5 becomes available.
