The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Release Date is Coming Soon
We have good news and bad news. The good news is we will get our first look at the all-new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata in just a few months, September to be exact. The bad news is it won’t be available for sale at our Mazda dealership near Sarasota until spring of 2015. It will be a lot of fun to get a closer look at the car and dive into the specs, but we would much rather climb behind the wheel and take it out on a winding road. We do know a few things already about this next-generation roadster, and it’s worth getting excited about the new MX-5 Miata right now.
Aluminum-Intensive SKYACTIV Chassis
Mazda has stated that they wanted to reduce the overall weight of the 2016 MX-5 Miata by as much as 220 pounds. In order to accomplish that feat, they turned to a new aluminum SKYACTIV chassis. In addition to being lighter, aluminum is also stronger than previous chassis materials, meaning that the new Miata should provide a tight and propulsive driving experience that lives up to the Miata reputation and blows past it.
New Engine Location
The engine in the new MX-5 will be located at the front of the car, but the heaviest components will be located behind the front axle, pushing the car’s center of gravity towards the middle. That is a big change for this model, and it should do a lot to enhance the handling of the vehicle, especially in precision scenarios.
We still haven’t seen a picture of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 yet, but it’s a safe bet that the new roadster is going to look incredible. In addition to the use of SKYACTIV technology, Mazda has distinguished itself in recent years through bold, refined designs. Take a look at any parking lot, and it’s pretty easy to pick out the Mazda models.
