An Overview of the 2016 Mazda6 Smart City Brake Support System

December 15th, 2015 by

The 2016 Mazda6 is loaded with standard and available safety features that are designed to do more than just keep drivers safe in the event of an accident. Much of the technologies prevent accidents before they ever happen. One such system is the innovative Smart City Brake Support available now on the 2016 Mazda6 sedan at Cox Mazda near South Bradenton and West Samoset.

How Does the Smart City Brake Support System Work?

The Smart City Brake Support System (SCBS) is an innovative new system available as part of a package of features on the Touring edition, and as standard technology on the Grand Touring edition. Watch the video below for an over-view of how this system works:

In other words, when driving at between 2-18 mph in city traffic, the Mazda SCBS uses a front sensor located on the windshield to monitor obstacles to the front of the vehicle. If it determines that there is a risk for collision, it will prepare the braking system by slightly closing the calipers to move the pads closer to the brake rotors. If the driver doesn’t react in time by turning away from the obstacle or braking, the SCBS system can apply the brakes automatically, potentially preventing a collision, or at the least reducing the damage that would be caused by failure to stop in time.

Other 2016 Mazda6 Safety Features

The 2016 Mazda6 earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ distinction as well as an NHTSA 5-star overall rating thanks in part to the SCBS. Other standard and available features designed to make the sporty sedan safer include:

  • SKYACTIV®-Body – The lightweight body structure provides superior stability and crash test performance thanks to a straighter, more continuous frame that is more resistant to folding in a collision.
  • Traction Control – Advanced systems like ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Brake Assist, and Dynamic Stability Control make it easier for drivers to control the Mazda6 in challenging conditions.
  • Active Monitoring – Select models include features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Collision Warning, which use sensors to monitor the space around the Mazda6 and enable you to avoid obstacles.
