Mazda Celebrates 25 Years of the Mazda Miata With New 25th Anniversary Edition
At this month’s 2014 New York Auto Show, Mazda was celebrating something very important. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster. The two-seat convertible was first released back in 1989 and continues to wow drivers today with its precise handling and near 50:50 weight distribution. For the anniversary, Mazda featured a large display of Miata cars from the past and unveiled the 25th Anniversary Edition MX-5 Miata.
Mazda Miata Anniversary Display
A very fun part of the New York Auto Show’s anniversary celebration was a large display of past Mazda MX-5 Miata models. There were mass production models from the car’s three generations, but it was most exciting to see some older concept cars. These ranged from the Super20 that made the rounds a couple of years ago all the way back to the Club Racer that was first shown at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show.
25th Anniversary Edition MX-5 Miata
Mazda is planning a very limited edition MX-5 to celebrate its anniversary. It takes the current 2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata with the retractable hardtop and adds performance upgrades like Bilstein shocks. The exterior is a metallic red, the roof is all black, and the interior is slightly off-white leather. Special badging adorns the car to further distinguish it. Only 100 models will be released, so we suggest you contact Cox Mazda for ordering information as soon as possible if you’re interested.
New 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata SKYACTIV Chassis
There were rumors Mazda might give us a sneak peak at the redesigned 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and they delivered with a look at the car’s new SKYATCTIV chassis. This is the first time the MX-5 will adopt SKYACTIV technology, which will make the car lighter and more efficient. From the look of it, the Miata’s center of gravity will shift more towards the middle to provide better balance and handling.
