Mazda is Planning a New Subcompact Mazda CX-3 Crossover
Bradenton and Tampa drivers will be excited to hear that Mazda is planning to produce a subcompact crossover called the Mazda CX-3 for the 2016 model year. This subcompact will fall under the CX-5 in Mazda’s annual lineup and will reportedly be based on the upcoming 2016 Mazda2 redesign.
The CX-3 Will Resemble the Mazda2
Early speculation has it that the Mazda CX-3 will resemble the new 2016 redesigned Mazda2 in terms of its “underpinnings” and basic specs. Based off the South Korean model, the Mazda2 has a larger wheelbase and bigger body than its predecessor: it’s 160 inches long and 59 inches high with a wheelbase of 101.2 inches. It also features a SKYACTIV 1.3L four-cylinder engine producing 91 hp and 89 lb-ft of torque paired with a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
Mazda is a forward-thinking automaker, so expect tremendous innovation and high quality with the Mazda CX-3. This is a segment that’s been growing quickly thanks to more drivers who are living in city environments and others who want to cut down on fuel costs. Competitors include the Jeep Renegade and Chevy Trax.
We’ll likely see the CX-3 offer SKYACTIV engine options, powertrains that are fuel efficient, light, quiet, and seriously powerful. Drivers should note that the compact CX-5 is larger than the CX-3 and gets great gas mileage, so we should expect even better from the smaller CX-3.
