Fuel-Efficient Driving Habits

2020 Mazda CX-9

Drivers in and around Sarasota turn to Mazda when they want strong fuel efficiency. No matter if you drive a new Mazda or another popular model, it’s important to know how to stretch your dollar by going as long as possible between trips to the gas pump. With the use of these handy habits courtesy of Cox Mazda, our team can help you save big mile after mile. Read on to learn more about how to be fuel-efficient.

How To Be Fuel Efficient

When you want to stretch your miles per gallon for a budget-friendly drive, there are a few fuel-efficient driving habits you can follow. Here are some of those steps, conveniently listed:

  1. Accelerate slowly. Make sure not to accelerate abruptly or aggressively. Accelerate smoothly and take a few seconds to go from 0 to 10 mph.
  2. Try to avoid traffic. Stop-and-go traffic is hard on your MPGs. If you can get around traffic, it would be best if you did so.
  3. Avoid high speeds. When you travel beyond a speed of 65 mph, your fuel-efficiency may suffer. As a result, when on high-speed roads, stay between 55 and 65 mph and follow all speed limit guidelines.
  4. Coast to a stop. How can you save on fuel when driving on hills? Coast as you go uphill and use the forward momentum of your car going downhill to accelerate. It’s best to coast to a stop rather than pressing on the brakes going downhill.
  5. When you can, don’t use the air conditioner. When your car’s air conditioner is on, it adds an extra load for your engine to bear. When you put the AC on in your car, try not to use it at full-blast. It’s better to use the recirculate function.
