How to Fix Scratches on a Car Yourself

To fix scratches on a car, Tampa drivers have a move DIY options to try out before bringing it to our dealership:

  • Candle Wax – This isn’t a permanent solution, but if you want to make the scratch less visible, clean it and then gently rub a little candle wax over it.
  • Super Glue – You can also use superglue to mask the damage and help the scratch blend in with the rest of the paint job.
  • Paint Polish or Rubbing Compound – Start with a light paint polish with a less abrasive foam pad. If that doesn’t work, slowly work your way up higher-grit polishes or compounds. If none of the polishes work, we recommend wet sand paper.
  • Wet Sandpaper – Use 2000-grit wet sandpaper to remove the scratch. Once it’s almost invisible, apply a rubbing compound, followed by finer and finer polishes. Then apply paint sealant or wax for further protection.
  • Touch-Up Paint: If you have a deeper scratch, take it to a service garage for a touch-up paint job.

How to Fix a Small Dent in a Car

If you’re trying to fix a dent in a car yourself, follow these quick steps on how to fix a dent in a car. If you’re having trouble or the dent is a little large, don’t hesitate to bring your car in:

  • Plunger – Take a plunger to the dent and see if you can’t use the suction to pop the dent out.
  • Hammer or Mallet – If you can access the other side of the dent, try hammering the dent to level out the other side. Remember to put a towel over whatever surface you are hammering.
  • Dent Puller – If neither of those solutions work, drill a hole in the dent, lace a wire through the hole, and pull the dent back to surface level. You’ll need to fill the hole, sand it down, and paint it again.
